Casa Don Bosco- Orphanage for young women

There is so much say about this project, where do I start? The children are beautiful, the nuns and Don Bosco’s Catholic organization so caring and helping these young girls who would have been lost. The orphanage receives no financial support from the Mexican Government and relies on donations and volunteers. I was approached by Rob Nelson, another volunteer with a huge heart to help take photos for a video that they could show internationally and try to gather donations. I spent several days with the children at the orphanage, following them as they did their chores and as they came together for lunch and prayer. I also went into the country side outside of San Miguel and photographed families in rural communities. It is such a contrast to see their smiles and positive attitudes while living in such conditions. I continue to give thanks for how blessed I am and to give back. It is really a testament to true happiness instead of material happiness.
School Portraits Leon, Guanajuato

Helping out a school that is completely volunteer funded. The parents pay 20 pesos a month to send their children to school here. The community around the school has no running water, and whatever electricity they do have is stolen form power lines that supply the major city of Leon, Guanajuato. A friend asked me if I would shoot their school portraits, and 400 children later here they are. For many of them, it was their first school portrait.
