Shooting Darla’s jewelry is always fun, we start laughing and talking as I set up my lights and reflectors in the living room of her & Jame’s castle. We work closely on these shoots as she is the creative director, arranging her pieces and meticulously aligning them just right. Setting up the backgrounds is also a challenge, as we try to achieve that floating effect for her pieces. On this particular shoot, I used a smoked piece of glass set above a copper plate that had some designs stamped into it. I have a 3 light set up going here, two 150 watt Yake strobes & a Nikon Flash. A remote trigger sets off my Nikon Speedlight SB-800, which is directly in front of and eye level with the jewelry, this in turn fires the strobes, one behind the jewelry and at a 45 degree angle above it and the other a 45 degree angle above it and to camera left. I love the large stones and quartz she works with, and I really need all 3 lights to light them up. You can see more of her jewelry, and my photography on her site: http://www.darla-nordstrom.com/Index.html
